Obituary for William E. "Buck" Butler

William E. “Buck” Butler, age 88, of Nixon, died October 22, 2013 in Victoria. He was born July 19, 1925 in DeWitt County to William J. and Melva (Burt) Butler. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John C. Butler; and a grandson, Ryan W. Butler. Buck is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elvera Koopmann Butler of Nixon; two sons: Gary Butler and wife Charlene of Nixon; Rodney Butler and wife Dawn of Berclair; four grandchildren: Ross Butler and wife Kacey of Nixon; Tallis Butler, Jadan Butler, and Braxton Butler all of Berclair; and his sister, Dorothy Simek of Victoria; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as many friends.

W.E. was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed for 25 years by the Texas Animal Health Commission and worked 15 years in the oilfield. His true love was found in the country, checking water troughs and feeding cows. He built Nixon Livestock Commission in 1973 and bought Beeville Livestock Commission in 1988. You could find him working in the back, visiting with customers, sitting in the audience and taking care of his customers providing a competitive and fair market. He loved the auction rings and they were his pride and joy along with his two sons and families.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, October 25th from 4 PM – 8 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel of Nixon. The funeral service will be held at Finch Chapel on Saturday, October 26th at 10:00 AM with Pastor Ann Koopmann officiating. Burial will follow at the Nordheim Cemetery, Nordheim, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show; the Nixon Education Foundation, or the Goliad Education Foundation.
