Obituary

Obituary for Ricky Lee Calahan

Rick Lee Calahan, age 60, quietly passed from this life to the next on October 7, 2020 while surrounded by his family. He was born on January 17, 1960 in St. Louis, MO and was raised in Nixon, TX. Rick spent many years working construction, building, and renovating homes. He cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and was devoted to Julie, his wife of 39 years. He was an excellent leather craftsman, a talented artist, a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, and passionate animal lover. Rick enjoyed joking with people and he loved everything about family gatherings. He was always so excited months in advance for the next event. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pleas B. Hyatt, Jr. and Flossie (Regan) Hyatt; brothers, AJ Wells and Robert Hyatt; and sisters, Joan Kitts and Phyllis Walters. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Julie Elaine Calahan; daughter, Tina Duhamel Cancino and husband Robert; step-daughter, Crystal McCoy Kelly and husband Allen; grandchildren, Sophia, Sasha, Samantha, Sebastian, Jennifer, Lillian Jolee, Cherish, Alison, and James; siblings, Eddie Wells, Linda Riley, Helen Hunt, Buddy Hyatt, Joyce White, Le Ann Espinola, Jackie Hallada, and Mickey Hyatt; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was loved by many and will be missed. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Hyatt Family Cemetery in Nixon, Texas.

I remember the day you came into our lives. When mother picked me up from school there you were (and Mickey, too) in the front seat. A little blonde haired, blue eyed 5 year old dressed in navy short pants with suspenders, white button down shirt, and Buster Brown shoes. When I asked mother, " Who are these little guys?" She said, "They're your new little brothers." I was so happy. I finally had real people to dress up and play with. You were the best Prince Charming in all my plays. Rest well, sweet Prince."
