Pole Mendez, age 75, died June 7, 2013 at his home in Smiley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Julia (Pacheco) Mendez. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rita (Pena) Mendez; daughter, Valerie Mendez-Herron and her husband, Chris Herron; 3 grandchildren: Dana Leal, Brooke Herron, Kilee Herron; numerous God-Children; 3 brothers: Jessie Mendez, Angelo Mendez, Jose Mendez; and a sister, Julia Mendez.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Monday, June 10, 2013 at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with a Rosary recited at 6:30 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Smiley with burial following at the Burriola Cemetery near Smiley. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
