Francisco (Frank) Martinez, age 89, of Smiley, Texas, passed away August 03, 2013 at his daughter’s home in Cuero, Texas. Frank was born September 17, 1923, in Martindale, Texas to Jesus and Christina Martinez. He was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. Phillips Catholic Church in Smiley. On February 25, 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army.
Frank married Trinidad Soliz on February 14, 1947. They were married for nearly 58 years when she passed away in 2004. Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife Trinidad Martinez; his parents, Jesus and Christina Martinez; sons, Freddy Joe Martinez, Jose Luis Martinez, Ricardo Martinez and most recently, beloved son Frank Martinez Jr.; a grandson, Michael Cardenas; and great-granddaughter, Marcela Rodriguez.
Survivors include his children Steve Martinez and wife Belinda; Maggie Echavarria and husband Ralph; Virginia Aranda and husband Andres; Emilia De Leon; Florence Sandoval and husband Ernest; Lola Villareal and husband Manuel; Mary Cervantes and husband Oscar Almeida-Cortez; Rosa Rios and partner Lazette Taylor; Angela Banuelos and Sergio Perez. 21 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Jose Mendez and Cuca Torres, and many friends that were and always will be considered family.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Smiley. Burial will follow at the Wrightsboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Phillips Catholic Church of Smiley, Texas.
