Obituary for Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Dirks (Schindler)

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Schindler Dirks was born in San Antonio, Texas to Fred and Annie (Beck) Schindler on July 8th, 1927. She passed away in her home in Saint Hedwig, Texas surrounded by her family, who meant the world to her, on September 12th, 2013 at the age of 86. Betty attended Saint Mary's High School. She worked at the San Antonio Drug Company and later met and married Edgar Dirks on April 3rd, 1948. She dedicated her life to raising her 7 children and enjoyed feeding her wild birds, fish in her ponds and gardening. Always serving others selflessly, she did keep God first. She was the heart behind the Little Olde Ladies Baseball Team as well as the first baseman. Betty was a member of the Rosary Society and choir at the Annunciation of the BVM Catholic Church in Saint Hedwig and spent her much deserved free time teaching the grandchildren to fish, play games, bake cookies, and have the best Christmas Eve gatherings ever. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosemary Beck; brothers, Edwin Schindler, Albert Schindler, and grandson Mark Nichols. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edgar A. Dirks; children, Ronnie Dirks and wife Missy, Wayne Dirks and wife Cindy, Danny Dirks and wife Mary Ann, Greg Dirks, Doug Dirks and wife Jade, Mary Ann Nichols and husband Rick, and Glenn Dirks; sister, Bernice Masch and husband Frank, brother, Fred Schindler Jr. and wife Lois. Betty has also left behind 13 amazing grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and her beloved dogs. We will always cherish and love our memories of her, see you when we get home. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 16th from 5:00pm - 8:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm at the Finch Funeral Chapel in LaVernia, Texas.
