Obituary for Edwin A. "Cowboy Wehe" Wehe

Edwin A. Wehe, "Cowboy Wehe", completed his life's journey on earth on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the age of 82 years and 32 days. He was born on April 20, 1931 in Yorktown, TX, to the late Charles and Rosie Miller Wehe.

Edwin was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he was Baptized, received his First Communion and Confirmation. He was known for always wearing a suit to church and always ate fish on Fridays. He attended Holy Cross Catholic School traveling there by horseback and later by bicycle.

After his father's tragic accidental death in 1946, he helped his mother on the family owned farm raising corn, cotton, hay, cattle, hogs, chickens, turkeys, and a vegetable garden in order to make ends meet. In addition to family farm chores, in his early years he hired himself out to neighbors working on their farms or ranches in order to bring in a little extra money in order to operate and keep the family farm. Later he worked for Gulf Coast Wood Products in Cuero, TX, a pipeline company, and in 1980 he began his career at Yorktown Independent School District in the maintenance dept. The only time he missed work was when he had a health problem in Oct. of 1994 at which time he had accumulated approximately 3 months of sick leave which he needed to recuperate. After approximately 20 years with YISD, he retired from there. He continued to raise hay and cattle on his farm at 1616 Metting School Rd and on his nephew's place as he did while his mother and sisters owned it until approximately 2 years ago. While he lived very frugally, he not only donated to his church, but area churches as well. He also worked at his church and hall festivals until 2 years ago.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents are a sister, Hilda E. Schley and a nephew Karl Hugh Schley.

He is survived by nephews, Bobby (Bonnie) Schley and Gene Schley; nieces, Hilda (David, Sr) Parsons and Elizabeth (Leon) Joiner and numerous great nephews and great nieces.

On Saturday, May, 25, 2013, visitation will be 9:00 - 9:45 AM, Rosary 9:45 AM, Mass 10 AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be great nephews, Brad, Travis and Kenneth Schley, David Jr. and Michael Parsons, Michael Hallett, Rick Sturm, and Allan J. Parsons. Honorary pallbearers will be great nephews, Kyle Schley, Chris Joiner, Tommy Ohrt, and Colby Parsons.
