Obituary for Ed Kvapil

Edgar (Ed) Allen Kvapil passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 18 days. Ed was born to Frank and Frances Kvapil on August 21, 1958, in San Antonio, Texas. On March 22, 1980 he married his beloved wife of 33 years, Gerry Kennedy Kvapil. They made their home in La Vernia, Texas, where over the past 20 years, they raised four children. Survivors include his wife Gerry, their children, Jennifer Kvapil, Kimberly Kvapil, Christopher Kvapil, Justin Kvapil; sisters Carolyn Mosmeyer, Darlene Livingston and Janice Luffman; brothers-in-law Mark Kennedy, Mike Kennedy; sister-in-law Diana Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, mother and father-in-law, John and Mary Jane Kennedy, brothers-in-law John and Robert Kennedy, sister-in-law Cindy Koch and nephew Michael Gonzales. Ed loved hunting, gardening, cooking, western themed novels and country music but was less than fond of daylight savings time or wearing suits. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children’s school and sports activities. Ed graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1976 and attended San Antonio Junior College. He worked for San Antonio City Public Service for 34 years where he made many lifelong friends and was admired for his sense of humor and down-to-earth approach to everyday problems. Ed and Gerry looked forward to his upcoming retirement and were planning an Alaskan cruise where he hoped to finally fulfill his dream of experiencing the Northern Lights. Ed’s family took precedence over all else in his life but he was always there to help his friends and community with fund raising events, home building and home improvement projects, or whatever else was needed of him. Ed was a loving husband, father, son and brother and will be sorely missed by his family, friends and community. . Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 12th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in LaVernia.
