On Saturday, July 20, 2019 William A. “Bill” Holmes of Nixon, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 85. Bill was born in Nixon on January 7, 1934, the son of Forest Holmes and Ida (Moeller) Holmes, whom have preceded him in death along with his sister, Katie Wood and her husband Judge John H. Wood, Jr.; brother, Forest Holmes; niece, Kathryn Johnston and husband Ches; and nephew-in-law, Jeff Moorman. Bill married his sweetheart, Nancy Campbell on August 11, 1956. That same year, Bill received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, after which he enjoyed a long career in the furniture business in Nixon. Bill was extremely active in the Nixon community, serving at various times on the Nixon school Board, little league coach, Lions Club and the Nixon Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding Elder of Lifegate Ministries in Seguin, Texas. In addition to being an elder, Bill was an accomplished musician and singer and led worship at Lifegate for many years. He also taught for many years at Lifegate Ministries school. He served the Lord and his family faithfully with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Holmes; children, Steve Holmes (Carla), Sheri Holmes Wood (Mike), and Dr. Clayton Holmes (Sherry); grandchildren, Cory Wootton (Tracy), Josh Holmes (Kimberly), Courtney Dean (Stephen), Katie Smith (Thomas), Billy Holmes, and Hannah Holmes Vassion (Jacob); great-grandchildren, Cole Wootton, Brodie Wootton, Tyler Smith, Campbell Dean, Reese Smith, Lily Holmes, Emily Holmes, and Jensen Vassion; and niece, Nancy Moorman; as well as many cousins and friends who loved him dearly. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.
