Obituary for William (Billy) John Bonewitz, Sr.

William “Billy” John Bonewitz, Sr. passed to his heavenly home Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the age of 85 in Floresville, Texas. Billy was born in San Antonio, Texas, April 4, 1938, to Joseph Ike Bonewitz and Annie D. (Aniol) Bonewitz, who have preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joey Bonewitz; sister, Betty J. (Bonewitz) Wollney; brother-in-law, Norbert F. Wollney, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Darlene Wollney and Glenda Bonewitz.

Billy was a family man whose greatest joy in life was his family. He always enjoyed the simple things in life and loved spending time with his dogs and cattle while gardening or farming on his property in Floresville. In his younger days, Billy proudly served in the US Army and later worked as a manufacturing maintenance mechanic.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of more than 63 years, Dorothy Wollney Bonewitz; children, William John “Bill” Bonewitz, Jr (Patty), James Lance Bonewitz (Jill); grandchildren, Justin Lane Bonewitz (Kellie), Nadine Christine Bonewitz; sister, Annie Halbardier; nephews, Charles “Chuck” Halbardier, Robert Wollney, Rick Wollney, Norbert Wollney Jr., Lucas Wollney; nieces, Terri Smith, Pamela Wollney; numerous extended family and friends.

Services for Billy will be held Monday, December 4, 2023, at St. Ann Catholic Church, La Vernia. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, followed by the Rosary being recited at 9:30 am, then the Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am.

Father Johnson Le will officiate the services with interment immediately following at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery, La Vernia, Texas.
