Obituary for Walter Peter Golla

Walter Peter Golla was born to Bernard “Ben” Golla and Lucy Stolowski Golla on October 19, 1935, in St. Hedwig, Texas. He entered his heavenly home on December 12, 2022, at the age of 87.

Walter was a loving husband, devoted father, and an inspiration to his grandchildren and everyone who met him. He faithfully served the Lord at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and was on the Church Finance Committee for over 30 years until he had a massive stroke in 2010. He suffered from many, many illnesses/surgeries but it only seemed to make him a stronger Christian.

Walter served proudly in the US Navy 1955-1959 as an electrician and was stationed on many ships in California. He was honored to be on the USS Missouri as his last ship. The ships he was on went from California to Hawaii, Japan, Guam, and the Philippines. After returning home he worked at Kelly AFB for 33 years as an electronic technician. After his retirement in 1990, he then worked 6 years on the Bexar Appraisal District Board and 5 years for East Central ISD.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stanley B. Golla and Bernard (Claudia) Golla. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Lee (Doege) Golla; children, Laura (Mark) Rutledge, Sharon (Karl) Mihalski, and Brian (Alexis) Golla; grandchildren, Jacob Mihalski, Avery (Patrick) Goodman, Victoria Rutledge, Connor Rutledge; brothers, George Golla, Anthony Golla, Jerry (Dianne) Golla; sister, Marie (Robert) Middleton; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Embrace Hospice and especially Jannette Kasper for the excellent care provided for Walter during recent months.

There will be a visitation Sunday, December 18, 2022, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel, La Vernia, with Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM that same evening.
