Sylvia Katherine Cowey of Nixon, Texas went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 3, 2020 at the age of 84. Katherine, as she was known to all who loved her, was born on July 6, 1936 in Gonzales County, Texas to Joseph M. Montgomery and Thelma Orvetta (Yates) Montgomery. Katherine married James H. “Buddy” Cowey in Alamogordo, Texas. They raised two sons and built a beautiful life together until his passing in 1987. Katherine is also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Matthew Cowey; and sister, Marjorie Mann. She will be dearly missed by her sons, Reverend Michael L. Cowey (Jamye), and Lanny Cowey; grandchildren, Jason Cowey (Tinnifer), and Carrolyn Kate Cowey; great-grandchildren, Jameson Cowey, Jaxon Cowey, and Trinity Cowey; sister, Doris Tillery; as well as other loving family and many friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, 5:00pm-8:00pm at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, Texas.

Burial will follow at the Nixon Cemetery. The Reverend Michael Cowey will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Temple, 400 North Texas Avenue, Nixon, Texas 78140. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, masks will be required for those attending the services and social distancing will be observed.
