Obituary for Sherman Wesley Baker

Sherman Wesley Baker, Sr. of Sutherland Springs, TX was born May 21, 1946 in Stockdale to Ora Belle and Wesley Baker. He left this world on July 13, 2019. He was 73 years old. He grew up in Port O'Connor, helping his dad on his shrimp boat. Later his family moved to the Floresville area where he graduated high school in 1964. He served his country honorably in the US Army and achieved the rank of E5.
In 1967 he married the love of his life, Elaine Yaws. They celebrated 52 years of marriage on April 8th of this year. Together they had twins Sherman Wesley, Jr., and Lesli Sharon, and later another son Brannon Scott.
Sherman was a lifelong member of the Church of God 7th day.
He was one of the founders and first fire chief of the Sutherland Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. He was president of SS Water for 8 years. He resided in Sutherland Springs for 51 years.
He ran and owned his own welding business for many years, and later worked as a ranch manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Ora Belle Baker. He is survived by wife Elaine Yaws Baker, son, Sherman Wesley Baker, Jr. (Jami), daughter, Lesli Sharon Baker Neubauer (Richard), son Brannon S. Baker (Laura). And grandchildren, Lauren Baker Elizondo, (Mike), Cullen and Noah Baker, Abby Baker Turney (Cullen Turney), Katheryn, Olivia and Emily Baker, Richard Louis Neubauer III, (Jessica), Chase Neubauer, Alejandro Baker. Three great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Evelyn Elizondo, Camila Neubauer.
Four sisters and one brother, Joyce Gold, Nona Karnei, Minnie Albert (Franklin) Patricia Minica (Keith), and James Baker (Delaine) and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Sherman's life in Nixon, TX at Finch Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 9 A.M. followed by services 10 A.M., with graveside services to follow at Nixon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Trey Neubauer, Chase Neubauer, Cullen Baker, Noah Baker, Alejandro Baker, and Mike Elizondo. Honorary Pallbearer, Cullen Turney.
