Obituary for Ronald Kissee

Chief Warrant Officer 4, Ronald “Ron” Leroy Kissee (US Army Retired), passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Brooke Army Medical Center, at the age of 74, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane (Getka) Kissee and five children, Leanna of Kenosha, WI, Matthew (Nora Claire) of Cibolo, TX, Scott (Tara) of San Antonio, TX, Jennifer of San Antonio, TX, and Jeffrey (Jessica) of Stockdale, TX; 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandsons; brother, Donald (Paulette) of Necedah, WI; sister, Sueann (Keith) Muir of Afton, TN; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald was born May 21, 1949, in Longview, Washington. He is preceded in death by his father Hillis C. Kissee; mother, Elsie (Koch) Perschke; stepfather, Eugene Perschke; brothers, Jerry and Robert Kissee.

Ronald entered the Army in 1967 and served two combat tours in Vietnam. After leaving the military in the fall of 1970 he returned to Kenosha, WI, where he worked at American Brass, American Motors Corporation, and AO Smith before returning to the Army Reserve in 1983. He rose in ranks to Staff Sergent and after completing Warrant Officer Basic Course at Fort Rucker, AL in May 1990, became Warrant Officer. Ronald retired in May 2009 from the 7th Army Reserve Command in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He and his wife and youngest son returned to the San Antonio area to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Ronald’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award). Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal (3rd Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon (4th Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 40 year Device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal Unit Citation (First Class), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal and the USAF Aircrew Member Badge.

The family would like to thank the attending doctors and nurses at Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital and Brooke Army Medical Center 3rd floor for their care and compassion for Ronald and family during this difficult time. A special thank you to his VITAS Hospice Nurse, Ms. Victoria Achuff-Freasier – words cannot express our gratitude for all your care during the last 3 months.

Visitation will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, TX, on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Graveside service with full military honors will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the veterans’ support group of your choice in memory of Ronald.
