Obituary for Rodney Lynn Thierry

Rodney Lynn Thierry was born on April 16, 1950, in Nixon, Texas to Ray and Ruth Thierry. Rodney passed away after a brief stay in hospice care on July 7, 2022, in Kerrville, Texas.

Rodney graduated from Walla Walla High School of Walla Walla, Washington. He enlisted into the United States Navy and began a 21-year career as a medical corpsman. Rodney was stationed with the Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, as well as the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. Later he served as a Religious Program Specialist First Class at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California. Upon retirement, Rodney returned to Texas to be near his mother Ruth Thierry, and his son and daughter.

In San Antonio, he met and married Doris in 1990. After Doris had retired from teaching, they began traveling by RV. His goal was to travel to Alaska and that was their first trip. Other travels would be visiting much of the US, Canada, France, and Germany. He enjoyed getting together at the Lohse family reunions and holidays with members of the Thierry and Lohse families, as well as Doris' Baldwin family.

They "nested" by settling on their acreage for 18 years outside of San Antonio in Medina County, developing their property and enjoying their retirement. After the "big freeze," they moved to Kerrville to be near Kris, David, and Andrew.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Doris, of Kerrville, Texas; daughter Kristina Pederson of Kerrville, Texas; son Bryan Thierry of Beaufort, South Carolina; brother, Gerry Thierry of Tyler, Texas; and 5 grandchildren. Rodney is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ruth Thierry.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, 2:00pm, at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, Texas.
