Obituary for Richard M. Garrahan

Richard Myrick Garrahan – September 23, 1935 – August 29, 2021

Known for his generous and entrepreneurial spirit, Richard will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Sentimental with a deep love of family, those who knew Richard relied on his knowledge and expertise on a vast amount of subjects. Anything that needed doing, Richard could be counted on to get it done.

Born and raised in Floresville, Texas, Richard played on the winning Floresville Tigers football and basketball teams and served as a class officer for his senior year of high school in 1954. Shortly afterward Richard married his high school sweetheart and they moved to San Antonio where he began his career as a San Antonio Police Officer and the couple started a family. Always the entrepreneur, Richard soon moved on to bigger and better things opening four El Tipico restaurants throughout San Antonio and then opening the first of the iconic Hungry Farmer Steakhouse dynasty in 1968. He went on to open several more Hungry Farmers around the San Antonio area, Canyon Lake and Laredo. Following his love of architecture, Richard realized his goal of building his dream house all the way from conception and built his stunning 5000 square foot home on a hill overlooking San Antonio.
