Obituary for Nola Jane Cox (Ritchie)

Nola Jane Cox, age 88, of Nixon, TX passed away November 16, 2015 in Gonzales, Texas. She was born on June 5, 1927 in Nixon. Nola was a Master Florist and owned and operated Nola’s Flower and Gift Shop for over 30 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin C. and Janie Matilda (Baker) Ritchie; her first husband Leslie Vernon Patteson; her second husband, Leslie A. Cox; and her daughter, Linda Evelyn Patteson. She is survived by her son, Dennis Vernon Patteson and wife Vicky of Nixon; two granddaughters: Tanya Grantham of Floresville; Leslie Kelley and husband Brian of Gonzales; three great-grandchildren: Evelyn “Evie” Grantham, Kaylie Kelley, and Graham Kelley; two sisters: Erna Pattillo and husband Otis Scott, Erma Miles and husband Jack; two brothers: W.O. Ritchie and wife Diane, and Kenneth Ritchie; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Nola loved spending time baking and sewing for friends and family. She got true enjoyment from her great-grandbabies and loved spending time with them. Nola was a true entrepreneur, owning not only a flower shop, but a fabric shop and restaurant. She volunteered for many charities, organizations, and she loved helping the Nixon community. Above all, Nola was a faithful Baptist. She loved family gatherings filled with music and love.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 17th from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Finch Funeral Chapel of Nixon. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 18th at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Nixon with the Rev. Marvin Miles officiating. Interment will follow at the Nixon Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Department, 403 North Texas Avenue, Nixon, TX 78140.
