Obituary for Melvin P. Friesenhahn Jr.

Melvin Paul Friesenhahn aka, “Butch or Butchy”, passed peacefully from this world to a pain free one on December 6, 2023, at the age of 79. Melvin was born August 14, 1944, in Martinez, Texas to Melvin C. Friesenhahn, Sr. and Beatrice (Gillespie) Friesenhahn.

Melvin graduated from St. Gerards Catholic school in 1962 and later went on to own two auto parts stores with his wife at the time, Marlys. One of the stores was in Kirby and the other at Fort Sam Houston.

When Melvin least expected it, April 14, 1984, he was blessed with his daughter Evie Caroline, or as he called her “My Evie Girl”. He felt especially blessed when he had his first granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth in 2014. Those girls were truly the apple of his eyes.

Melvin loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, sitting under his favorite Oak Tree, being surrounded by family and friends. Melvin had one of the kindest hearts and was truly loved. He will be missed greatly.

Melvin is preceded in death by his Opa and Oma, his parents, sister, and niece. He is survived by his daughter, Evie Nichols (Jimmy); granddaughter, Caroline; sisters, Shirley Dzierzanowski, Donna Kelly “Don”; half-sister, Linda Ellis; brother, Mark Poole; nephews and nieces, Melvin Burns (DeeDee), Curtis Burns, Patty Herbold (Gene), Cheri Crow (Kelly), Jason Hogue, Carie Ryan, Jacob & Zack Kelly, Deena Ellis; numerous great nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his care givers and nurses from GRMC Hospice, Cat Smith, Amanda, Sandra, Tammy Grouthues, Sheri Krausman; nieces, Patty and Cheri, and best friend, Roger Stanush. Most special of all his sister, Shirley Dzierzanowski who has cared for him many years. They were true companions in their later years of life.

A visitation will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:30 am, at Finch Funeral Chapel, La Vernia, Texas. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am immediately following the time of visitation.

Pastor Chad Humphrey will officiate the service.
