Obituary for Lorraine Dorothy Maha (Moczygemba)

Lorraine Dorothy Maha passed away peacefully on January 19, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born to Vincent J. Moczygemba and Rosie Gawlik Moczygemba on January 17, 1935 near the community of Gillette in Karnes County, Texas. She attended the Blessed Virgin Mary school in Cestohowa and then Falls City High School. She worked at the San Antonio Drug Company in San Antonio after high school.

She met John Maha at a dance in Cestohowa at her age of 17 which began a life-long love affair for 71 years. They married on October 13, 1956 in Cestohowa, Texas and moved to San Antonio, Texas. They had 3 children, Callen Maha (Debra) of Houston, Donna Rauschuber of St. Hedwig, and Tracey Williams (Jason) of China Grove. There are 8 grandchildren – Ross Maha (Diana), Kristi Maha Pena (Daniel), Ryan Rauschuber, Ashley Somers (USCG) (Robert), Michael Rauschuber (Brittney), Zachary Williams, Garrett Williams and Sabra Williams. She also has 5 great-grandchildren – Mason Maha, Marie Maha, Julian Somers, Cole Pena and Logan Rauschuber.

Lorraine was a stay-at-home mother during the children’s school years. She was always a strong believer in quality education, even during the college years. After the children’s school years, Lorraine went to work for the San Antonio ISD Food Service Department, retiring in 1993, the same time her husband John retired. They then began traveling to all 50 states in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She passed on the love of national parks to her family. Her passion for gardening, cooking and sewing was also passed down.

She is predeceased by her Parents, brother Alvin and James. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 66 years, John Maha, Jr, her 3 children, 8 grand-children and 5 great grand-children, brothers Willmett Moczygemba of Gillett and Virgil Moczygemba and wife Elaine of Kosciusko and sister-in-law Jo Ann Moczygemba of Poth.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at St. Jerome Catholic Church beginning at 6:00 pm, Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 beginning at 9:00 am prior to the Funeral Mass that will be celebrated on at 10:00 am at St. Jerome Catholic Church with interment following at St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery.
