Obituary for Lavern Martha Schueneman (Diebel)

It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious mom, grandmother, sister, and friend, Lavern Martha Schueneman.

Lavern was born the middle child of three daughters to Charles and Martha Diebel on March 18, 1919. She married Lawrence Schuenemann on December 31, 1936. She passed from this world on February 24, 2016, a mere three weeks before her 97th birthday.

Lavern lived her life surrounded by those she loved, entertaining them often with her quick wit and warm sense of humor. She especially loved teaching German phrases to those that gathered around her, later testing them to see if they remembered her earlier teachings. She loved cooking, gardening, playing dominoes, and spending time with her family and her dog, BeBe.

Lavern is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence Schueneman; her son, Larry Schuenemann; her sister, Audrey Dornburg; and her parents, Charles and Martha Diebel.

Left to cherish the memories of this loving individual is son, Curtis Schuenemann; daughter-in-law, Jo Lois Schuenemann; eleven grandchildren, Ginger (Jim) Stradley, Curtis (Dawn) Schuenemann, Jr., Debbie (Sonny) Smithwick, Lonnie (Wylona) Schuenemann, Trey (Lisa) Schuenemann, Don (Marilyn) Schuenemann, Darryl (Linda) Schuenemann, Laurey (Mario) Garcia, Sandra Carter, Kimberly Temple, and Katrina (J.) Wilson; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Charlene Fromme.

A private graveside memorial ceremony for family members will be held at a future date at St. Andrews Lutheran Cemetery in Weesache, TX.

Memorials may be given in Lavern’s honor to the TriSun River Ridge Care Center for the purchase of patient activity supplies to provide for a more enjoyable stay in the nursing facility. Contact information: Senior Care River Ridge, 3922 West River Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78410 -- Attention: Maria Luna, Activity Director.
