Obituary for Julia Streety Scarbrough (Anglin)

Julia Streety Scarbrough, age 100, of Smiley, passed away April 4, 2016 in Gonzales. She was born in Smiley to Dick and Josie (Hughes) Anglin on March 15, 1916. Julia lived in Smiley her entire life and was a member of the First Baptist Church since age 11. She was active in community affairs serving in many offices of the church as well as twice as president of the Smiley P.T.A., and twice as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. She was also president of the W.M.U., a Cub Scout Leader, a member of the library board, and a volunteer for Senior Citizen’s Meals, S.I.C.M. and Keenagers. She retired from Smiley High School after 18 years in food service. She was married to Joe Streety for 42 years, and later married to Erwin Scarbrough. She is survived by 3 children: Jim Streety and wife Janie of New Braunfels, Philip Streety and wife Jackie of Smiley, and Linda Bishop and husband Earl of Smiley; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Josie Anglin; her first husband, Joe Streety; second husband, Erwin Scarbrough; 2 brothers: Howard Anglin and Marcus Anglin; 2 sisters: Patty Anglin Leming and Berta Anglin Burns; and a grandson, Earl Bishop Jr.

A Visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Smiley with the Rev. Marvin Miles officiating. Interment will follow at the Bundick Masonic Cemetery in Smiley. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 100, Smiley, TX 78159.
