Obituary for Johnny V. New

Johnny V. New went to his heavenly home on September 13, 2023. He was born January 8, 1940, in San Jon, NM to Andy and Betty (Hensley) New. His family moved from New Mexico to Arkansas and eventually settled in Anson, Texas.

Johnny joined the Army when he was 17 and served for 3 years. He married Thelma Jennings in 1961 and settled in the Abilene and Hawley area where they raised their 3 sons. He worked for the ACCO Feed Mill Company and retired from ACCO after 40 years. After retirement he grew fruits and vegetables for the Abilene Farmers Market for over 20 years. He resided in La Vernia, Texas from 2016 until the time of his passing.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Thelma Louise (Jennings) New, his parents; brothers George, Arthur, and Dan; sisters Bertie and Florence. He is survived by his sons John and wife Shelly, Stuart, and Curtis; grandchildren Justin, Sarah and husband Sam, Jacob and wife Tanya, Taylor and husband John, and Camden; 7 great grandchildren; sister Martha and husband Bobby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 9:30am on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Grace Bible Church in La Vernia, Texas, followed by the Memorial Service at 10:30am. Pastors Erin Weaver and Jeff Graves will be officiants of the service.

Burial will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2023, 10:00am, at Hawley Cemetery in Hawley Texas, officiated by J.W. Raney.
