Obituary for John Michael Pohl

John Michael Pohl was called to be with our Lord on March 18, 2021. John was born on August 14, 1953, the youngest of 5 children. He was raised near Cotulla, Texas but moved to San Antonio during his high school years. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1971.
He began his work career as a welder. He was proficient and certified in numerous types of welding and fabrication. However, after obtaining a degree in Diesel Service Technology at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas he began a long career in heavy equipment repair and diesel mechanics. After 30 years of service, he retired from VIA Metropolitan Transit in 2013. With his strong work ethic and engineering mindset, there was nothing John could not build or repair.
After retirement John devoted his time and labors to his farms in Bexar, Lavaca and Madison counties. He believed strongly in hard work and land stewardship.
Throughout his life John was a devout Catholic. He expressed his devotion to Jesus Christ through his endless acts of generosity and helpfulness to others. He was an active member of the Men’s Club and Bible study group at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church.
John is preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Pohl; parents, Joseph and Sarah (Kelly) Pohl; sister, Anna Marie Pohl Lell; father-in-law, Leonard Lyssy; brothers-in-law, John W. Lell and William Lytle. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of 43 years, Debra Lyssy Pohl, and son Clinton Pohl (Danielle D’Olivera); son-in-law, Jason Eittreim; grandchildren, Alexander Pohl, Charlotte Pohl, Erin Eittreim, Ira Eittreim; siblings, Eileen Lytle, William Pohl (Donna), Phillip Pohl; mother-in-law, Gladys Lyssy; brothers-in-law, Dennis Lyssy (Deena), Steven Lyssy (Terry); numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.

There will be a Memorial Rosary and Mass held Monday, April 12, 2021 beginning at 10:00 at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church. Father Bill Zadora will officiate the services.
