Joe R. Mendez of Smiley entered eternal rest on August 18, 2019 in New Braunfels, Texas at the age of 59. He was born on July 13, 1960 in DeWitt County, Texas to Santos and Sara Vasquez Mendez. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Fred Vasquez and Gilbert Mendez; and a nephew, John Guillory. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Diane Hernandez Mendez; children, Jamey Mendez (Benjamin), Yvonne Mendez, Elizabeth DeLeon (Mikey); 5 grandchildren: Kailynn Mendez, Jaden Del Val, Lauren DeLeon, Ethan Del Val, Mason Houseton; his sister, Cindy Guillory; nieces, Connie Mendez and Priscilla Vasquez; nephews, Lane Guillory and Fred Vasquez; and many friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel- Nixon.
