James Gary Zumwalt, 85, of Nixon, Texas passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022. James was born on July 7, 1936 in Harwood, Texas to Earl Jefferson Zumwalt and Vicie Mary (Flynn) Zumwalt. On July 8, 1961, James married his sweetheart, Janie Marie Bundick who precedes him in death along with his parents; brother, Wade Zumwalt; infant twin, Jessie Zumwalt; and sister, Joyce Hassell.

James was a fixture in his community, lovingly referred to as the “Butterkrust man”, delivering bread to families in the area for many years and developing life-long friendships.

James will be dearly missed by his daughters, Melony Zumwalt, and Cari Shaw (Donald); grandchildren, Meagan Rosson, D.J. Shaw (Kristina), Aaron Shaw (Destri), and Ethan Shaw (Vanessa); great-grandchildren, Isabelle Russell, Olivia Russell, Eli Rosson, Easton Shaw, Kinsley Shaw, and Bo Frank Shaw; brothers, Bubba Zumwalt, and Bobby Zumwalt; sister, Judy Pekar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.

Visitation with the family will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, Texas on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 11:00am-1:00pm. At 2:00pm, there will be a Graveside Service at Wrightsboro Cemetery in Wrightsboro, Texas. Pastor Terry Davis will officiate.
