Obituary for James "Jim" Cooksey

James “Jim” Cooksey entered eternal rest on October 10, 2021, at the age of 58 in La Vernia, TX. He was born on May 6, 1963, in Nixon, Texas to James Alvis and Betty Ruth (Collins) Cooksey, who preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years wife, Doris (Parks) Cooksey; his son, James “David” Jr. and wife Lucinda Cooksey of Sydney Australia; grandchildren, Dylan, Jackson & Grace Cooksey; sisters, Jamye Moss (Brent) of Campbell & Nancy Pawelek (Harvey) of Nixon; nephews, Jason, Justin and Derick Pawelek; niece, Kristin Bond; and other family and friends. Jim was a good man, thoughtful, honest, and hard working. He had a wonderful sense of humor, always helped his friends and neighbors, and loved his family. He will be deeply missed as well as the joy and laughter he brought to so many. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, Texas. Face coverings are requested at the visitation.

Pastor Michael Cowey will officiate the services. Interment will be in the Nixon Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Harvey Pawelek, Jason Pawelek, Justin Pawelek, Brent Moss, David Parks, Joe Parks, Paul Breda, and Charles "Zane" Wyatt. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be James David Cooksey, Jr., and Dereck Pawelek; Memorials may be made in Jim’s name to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center Hospice, Nixon Cemetery Association, or the American Kidney Cancer Association.
