Obituary for Hildegard Brewer (Koll)
Hildegard Brewer passed on May 6, 2023, at her home in Cibolo, Texas at the age of 79. She was born on August 9, 1943, in Nuremburg, Germany.
Our beloved wife and mother was born during a very difficult time as the war was ending in Germany. She was one of five children and from a very young age felt responsible for her siblings. She did everything she could to provide for the family, even as a small child selling scrap metal she found. This fierce and determined mind set served her well later in life.
Hildegard married Jimmie Brewer, a handsome young Airman, who was smitten from the moment he laid eyes on her. They married in 1970 and celebrated 53 years of marriage on April 23, 2023. The military brought them many travel opportunities and they traveled the world together making many beautiful memories. They eventually settled down in San Antonio, Texas when Jimmie retired. The two of them started a successful trucking company where she managed not only her own employees but was business manager for other contractors as well. She was well respected as one of very few business women in her industry.
Hildegard and Jimmie Brewer had one daughter, Marylin Whittington. Hildegard was the very best mother who always put family first. Her husband and daughter were her whole life. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her daughter. She always said “a little girl always needs her mommy”. She later gained a son that she loved dearly when Marylin and Christopher Whittington were married. Hildegard was eventually blessed with her granddaughter, Aubrey. She told anyone who would listen that she was the most perfect baby sent straight from heaven. Those two were inseparable and Aubrey brought new life into Hildegard. The photo you see above is the first family photo taken the day Aubrey was born. That’s pure joy in her face.
Hildegard was the most loving, generous, and selfless person you will ever meet. She was fiercely loyal. She would give someone in need the shirt off her back and could never pass a beggar without giving them money. She’d been there as a small child and knew how much even the smallest gift could mean to someone in need. Never has someone had a bigger heart.
There are no words to describe the pain of losing our wife, Mommy, and Oma. The only peace to be had is knowing she is no longer in pain. Her mind was sharp, but her body betrayed her for a very long time and limited her. She took a piece of our hearts when she went to heaven. The world was a better place for her being in it and now heaven is too. She’s now reunited and rejoicing with loved ones and looking over her family. She always said, “If I had a thousand hearts, they’d all belong to you”. Liebe Gott beschutze dich Mommy.
Hildegard is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jimmie Edsel Brewer; daughter, Marylin Whittington and husband, Christopher; granddaughter, Aubrey Whittington; sister, Maria Garnet; brother, Georg Koll and his wife, Apryl; fur baby, Coco. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Koll and Anna Coleman Koll, and two brothers, Roland Coleman and Rhyman Koll.
A visitation will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel, La Vernia, Sunday, May 14, 2023, from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm. A graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston, Monday, May 15, 2023, at 1:45 pm.
Clergy Charles Reese will officiate the services.
