Obituary for Henry Owen Wicke Jr.

Henry Owen Wicke, Jr. passed away on April 13, 2022. He was born on January 17, 1940, to Henry Owen Wicke, Sr. and Clara Gaylord Wicke. He grew up in the Nixon area and attended Nixon High School through 1958. He married in 1959 and moved to Beaumont Texas where he started his sales career in automobiles.

After moving to Houston, he started Wicke Motors in the late1960’s. He was an early pioneer in car sales and financing. He was well respected and even became the President of the Texas Automobile Dealers Association.

“Warren” as he was known by his close friends, had a certain magic to his personality. His positive attitude, generosity, and friendliness were legendary. He started Front Row Tickets in the 1980’s with his son, and they dominated the ticket industry for over 20 years. In recent years he lived and worked in The Philippines, where one of his good friends (Joey Cargill) lived and cared for him after his health started failing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; “Grannie” Gaylord; his beloved sister, Clare Louise Leppin (husband Harold), and by his 2 younger brothers, Orville (wife Jan), and Odell Wicke.

He is survived by his children, Charlotte (Wicke) Greene (husband David) of Houston, and his son, David Owen Wicke (wife Marti) of Ft. Worth; his 3 granddaughters, Lauren Richardson (husband Marc) of Jersey City, N.J., Chandler Weaver of Lakewood (Tierce) , Colorado, and Skyler Liv Wicke, who now lives and works in NYC. Skylar is a recent graduate of the University of Arizona in Tucson where her 2 older sisters also earned their degrees. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sara Wicke, and his ex-wife and mother of his children, Marge Rusch of LaVernia; and, by numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

His “Celebration of Life” will be held in Nixon at the Finch Funeral Home,308 East Third Street, Nixon, Texas 78140, on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
