Obituary

Our cowboy, Guillermo “Willie” Morin Cantu, born May 8, 1937 in Runge, TX took his last ride at the age of 82 at 12:00am on October 20, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones as he went to be with God. Willie is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 50 years, Juanita Cruz Cantu. He is survived by his 7 children, Virginia Bueno (Lee), Aurora Cantu, Guillermina Diana Hernandez (Guadalupe), Guillermo Cantu Jr. (Yvette), Annie Cantu (Clint), Mike Cantu (Michele), Daniel Cantu (Sylvia), two brothers Jose Saenz and Joaquin Cantu, 13 grandkids, and 7 grand-dogs. Willie grew up in Karnes City, where he cared for his family and often enjoyed a big plate of BBQ. He met Juanita in San Antonio, they wed in 1956, and went on to have 6 children together. It is certain that they are now in Heaven beside one another and watching over the legacy they’ve created--while lounging in their recliners. In 1967, Willie opened One Stop Radiator Shop on the South Side of San Antonio where he served the community for 30 years. Many of his family’s memories with him are in this shop that he so loved. Willie was a jack of all trades, always working with his hands and building something new. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching Spanish network TV. He had a personality like no other--kind, selfless, funny, and strong. He fought until the very end but before he lost his battle, he found his daughter Virginia with whom he was able to connect with and love. He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. Willie will be greatly missed but remains in our hearts forever through our many memories with him. A celebration of Willie’s life will begin on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, TX. The family welcomes visitors from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and a rosary will be recited at 7:00pm that evening.
