Obituary for Gary Willie Lenz

Gary Willie Lenz, 73, of Spring Branch, TX passed away January 8, 2024. He was born October 4,1950 in San Antonio, TX to Joseph A. Lenz Sr., and Alice Mae Lenz (Rohlf).

Gary spent his younger years in San Antonio and La Vernia, before moving to Spring Branch, Texas to raise his family. A drywall construction contractor by trade, but music was his true passion. Though he started off with country music, he wrote many more heartfelt songs in later years after being touched by stories of tragedies. The newspapers once wrote an article about him and a memorial song he wrote to honor a fallen soldier. He also organized a fund raiser in Spring Branch for veterans' causes. In more recent years, he began writing more Christian oriented songs. He passed his love of music on to his sons Braden, who often played guitar with him in home jam sessions, and his older son Jared, who was singing Hank Williams’ songs with him at a very young age. He loved deer hunting as well and took his sons hunting in their youth. He never missed any of Braden’s baseball or Jared's soccer games when they were kids. He on many occasions supported his son Jared in ministry work for the church and took care of him also when he had his own health struggles.

One of Gary’s greatest joys was the birth of his granddaughter Hope. She made him laugh and cry tears of joy. Hope picked out one of her special blankets for her grandpa. She hugged on it so he could be covered with her love. He is now resting in eternal peace, wrapped forever with that blanket and her love.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Lenz Sr. and Alice Mae Lenz, his brothers Joseph A. Lenz Jr., Gene Lenz and his nephew Tommy Ray Lenz.

He leaves behind his wife of 44 years Eileen Lenz (Lyssy), sons Jared Joseph Lenz, Braden James Lenz, and his granddaughter Hope Christine, daughter of Braden and Nikki, as well as many others who loved him. Above all, he was not just a father, but he was a friend to his sons. Keep “talking to Jesus” dad! We love you and will miss you “buddy”!

Gary was buried in a private burial service next to his parents in Concrete Cemetery in La Vernia, Texas.
