Deacon Robert Edward Thayer entered eternal rest, surrounded by his loving family on November 3, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born on February 16, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas to Emerson and Elaine (Mayes) Thayer.

Robert was ordained Deacon in May of 1980. He faithfully served the parishes of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, Texas, St. Anthony Catholic Church in Elmendorf, Texas, and the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, Texas.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles Thayer and Nelson Thayer; aunt, Elizabeth “Dottie” Thayer; and uncle, Brother Ralph E. Thayer, S.M. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon (Werland) Thayer; daughters, Elizabeth Drouillard (Dennis), Michelle Smid (Michael), and Stephanie Barrett; grandchildren, Joseph Drouillard, Catherine Drouillard, Dennis Drouillard, Thomas Drouillard, Hannah Smid, Jared Smid, Ethan Barrett, and Tana Barrett; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel- La Vernia, and the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening at the funeral home.

Father Bill Zadora will officiate the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Annunciation of the BVM Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.
