Obituary for Curtis R. Fowler

Curtis was born on June 6,1947 in Raymondville, Texas. He was named for his maternal grandfather, Raymond Champion, and was a member of the Texas pioneer family Champion. Curt grew up in south Texas, mostly in Edna. He moved with his parents and family to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1963 and attended Judice High School until his graduation in 1965. He moved on to the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL, now LSU at Lafayette). He entered the US Army in April 1966. After his service, he returned to USL to graduate in 1972.

After graduation, Curt moved to Denver, Colorado where his son, Ryan, was born. Curt lived between Colorado and California during the years 1990 and 1995. He moved back to Texas permanently in 1996 after the death of his dad to care for his mother. While caring for his mother, he served as a volunteer firefighter in Lyford, Texas, ultimately becoming the Chief and serving in that position for many years until moving to LaVernia in 1999. Once in LaVernia, Curtis joined the La Vernia Volunteer Fire department and then transferred to the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department, where he mastered swift water safety training as well as his advanced firefighter certification. Curtis was eventually named Battalion Chief. He was also selected to be the Stockdale City Fire Marshal, a position he served in for several years.

In 2017, Curtis was elected to Wilson County Constable in Pct. #3, a position he relished. He was responsible for being a liaison for stray animals and those that found them, working closely with neighboring rescues. He was re-elected to a second term in 2021. Being a Constable was the epitome of his servants heart, constantly and consistently being involved in the community.

He met the love of his life in 1998. Daria and Curt have been devoted to each other and the envy of many others with their loving relationship. They honeymooned in Estes Park, Colorado, their favorite place on the planet and have visited it annually since their marriage.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Daria, his son, Ryan Fowler (Alex), his step-daughter, April Letbetter (Justin), his sister Carlagene La Scala (Dann), his Brother in law, Deece Eckstein, his grandchildren, Alys, Mason, Oliver and Braelyn as well as Finley and Summer, Alexs’ children. He has numerous nephews and nieces in Colorado and Texas
