Obituary for Bessie Pearl Gordon McKinney

On August 8, 2021, Bessie Pearl Gordon McKinney passed away peacefully in Sequin, Texas at the age of 89. Bessie was born in Caldwell County, Texas on May 24, 1932, to Willie Z. Grantham and Minnie Pearl (Hermes) Grantham who preceded her in death. Bessie is also preceded in death by her first husband, Merlin C. Gordon whom she wed in 1954, and second husband Curtis McKinney, whom she wed on June 14, 1997; 6 brothers; 4 sisters; and granddaughter, Brenda Johnson. Over the years, Bessie lived in Luling, Texas and then settled in Nixon, Texas close to her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nixon and loved her Lord and Savior and her church family. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, softball, and reading the bible. Bessie owned and operated Grannie’s Day Care.

Bessie is survived by her children, Linda Bishop (Rickey), Wade Gordon (Patricia), and Dale Gordon (Laura); grandchildren, Wesley Gordon (Nichole), Chuck Johnson (Jeni), Justin Gordon (Heather), Kyle Gordon (Hayley), Brandi Goldstein (Johnny) and Kara Gordon (Shane Garner); great-grandchildren, Trenton and Trason Gordon, Mallorie and Jaydon Fox, Haley, Jarren, Dylan, and Marshall Gordon, Hayden, and Brayden Gordon, Journi Goldstein; Grady and Hadley Posas; step-daughter, Julie Aid (David); Sister-in-law, Lottie O’Neal; best friend and sister-in-law, Jimmie Gordon; sister, Gladys Wood (Wilbur); brother, James Allen “Pete” Grantham (Linda).

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021, 10:00am-11:00am at First Baptist Church of Nixon. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Burial at Union Valley Cemetery will follow the service. Pastor Terry Davis will be officiant of the services.
