Obituary for August Herbert Duelm

August Herbert Duelm went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at the age of 93. August was born on February 28, 1926, in La Vernia, Texas, to Emil and Erna Duelm. Most people remember him as Gus, or Boogie, and a hardworking peanut farmer or, later in life, a top-notch drywall specialist. Gus endured several hardships in his life; one being a brain tumor that left him totally deaf while in his 40’s. Never one to let something keep him down, he always enjoyed his time with family and friends while hopefully enjoying his favorite foods; fried catfish and homemade ice cream. One of his last adventures was a trip to Louisiana this past June to play his beloved KENO, where he was lucky enough to win a small jackpot on Father’s Day. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Erna Duelm; and brothers, Fritz Duelm, Edward Duelm, Eugene Duelm, and Emil Duelm, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Earwood and husband, Champ, Sharon Gideon and husband, Chris and Donna Wilson and husband, Jarrod; sons, Darrell Duelm and wife, Michelle, Brian Duelm and wife, Charlotte, and Herbert Duelm and wife, Amy; sisters, Louise Jones Ferris, Evelyn Belk and Mary Margaret Duelm. He also leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends who loved him. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 6:00pm-8:00pm at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
