Obituary for Joel G. Peterson

Joel G. Peterson, age 90, of Floresville, TX, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in Floresville. He was born August 1, 1928 in Lipscomb County, TX, to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Ada (Porter) Peterson. Having enlisted in the United States Marine Corp., Joel proudly served his country during WWII. In his later years, he retired as a teacher having worked over 36 years at Gallup High School in Gallup, NM. Joel was a member of the Gallup Church of Christ where he served as an elder for over 40 years and was also instrumental in the building of the Manuelito Navajo Children’s Home in Gallup and served on its board for over 50 years. His parents; brother, John Peterson and sisters, Norma Neal, Mary King, Emma Felps and Selma Tate, precede him in death. Joel is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise (Milom) Peterson; children, Larry Peterson, Terri Pirkle (Kelley) and Greg Peterson (Lesa); grandchildren, Halee Peterson, Shelby Peterson, Kody Pirkle, Kolton Pirkle and Kutter Pirkle; sisters, Josie Pinkston, Ruby Adcock and Texa Harper; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family. A visitation will take place at 12 noon on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Stockdale Church of Christ, Stockdale, TX.

Mr. Kelly Felps will officiate at the service. Interment with military honors will follow in the Stockdale Cemetery, Stockdale. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joel’s name to: Manuelito Navajo Children’s Home, PO Box 58, Gallup, NM 87305.
