Obituary for Marvin Ray Sievers

Marvin Ray Sievers, 74, of Yorktown, TX passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 at his home with family and friends present. Marvin was born to Alvera Clara Noster and Alvin Fritz Sievers on Oct. 19, 1935 in Yorktown, TX. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Dec. 8, 1935 and confirmed on Mar. 18, 1951. He attended school in Yorktown and graduated from Yorktown HS in May of 1954. After graduation, he attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, TX. Marvin married his high school sweetheart, Beth Katherine Kraege, in St. Paul Lutheran Church on Sept. 8, 1957, and they moved to Kingsville, TX where they attended Texas A & I College from which Marvin graduated with a BBA on Aug. 21, 1959. After graduation, he entered the Air Force Reserve program and was stationed in San Antonio and then in Wichita Falls, TX. He received his honorable discharge on Dec. 02, 1965. Marvin and Beth moved to Victoria, TX in 1960 where he became employed by Heldt Bros. Trucks. Living in Victoria, they became members of First English Lutheran Church. Their daughter, Susan Beth, was born on Jan. 29, 1962, and son, Mark Ray, was born on Nov. 26,1965. Mark’s twin brother, Michael, was stillborn. Another son, Jason Kraege Sievers, was born and died on Mar. 15, 1976 in Victoria. Marvin was active in the Victoria Horseman’s Club in Victoria and served as their president for several years. Marvin worked for Heldt Bros. Trucks for 37 years where he served as General Manager until he came down with Guillain-Barre Syndrome in 1991. He was also diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia at that time. He underwent physical and occupation therapy at Warm Springs Rehab Hospital near Gonzales, TX for nine months where Beth was employed as a medical transcriptionist. Under the guidance of wonderful therapists at that facility, he went from being paralyzed from the neck down to walking out of the facility with braces. Marvin and Beth moved back into their home in Victoria once again, and he went to work part-time with Heldt Bros. Trucks in Victoria and in Alice, TX. In 1997, they built a home on their land in Yorktown and moved back there where they were engaged in ranching. They were active in their home church of St. Paul Lutheran where Marvin was active on the elevator committee and along with others was instrumental in seeing that this was built so that all could come to worship there. Marvin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beth; daughter, Susan Dollins, and husband, Gill of Mission Valley; son, Mark Sievers, and wife, Kristie, of Nursery, TX; grandchildren, Kyler Ray Dollins and girlfriend, Kori Nicole Trahan, Kory Mack Dollins of Mission Valley, Brayden Ray Sievers, and Kaelen Karol Sievers of Nursery, TX; brothers, Arvid G. Sievers and wife, Kitty, of Yorktown, Larry W. Sievers and wife, Collin, of Katy, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy Muehlbrad officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers are nephews, Kevin and Kyle Sievers, Charles Riedesel, and Rick Molina; and friends, David Gleinser and Jerry Andrews. Honorary pallbearers are Manroy Wolpman, Kraege Wolpman, Pete Sievers, Dennis Henze, Alvin Stanchos, Jr., Jimbo Andres, Paul Gebauer, Greg Gauthier, Bob Patterson, Don Underwood, Thomas Kraege, Vernon Pittman, Dr. Bruce Bauknight and Nurse Ann, Dr. Ahmad Qadri, Dr. Karl Chen, the wonderful group of angels at Accolade Hospice, Veronica Mungia, and his many friends at the DQ Coffee Shop.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorktown, TX.
