Obituary for Vera Mae Ploch (Rhodes)

Surrounded by her husband, family and friends, Mrs. Vera Mae Hugo Ploch of Sutherland Springs, went to be with her Lord on January 30, 2017. Vera was born in San Antonio, Texas to Paul Sr. and Reba Mae Hugo on December 5, 1950. She attended New Braunfels High School and graduated in 1968. She attended college and went on to work many years in the insulation industry, where employers such as KMAC Construction became life-long friends. She had the strongest work ethic; a beautiful part of her spirit of servitude. She was a member of the Sutherland Springs Community Association, the Sutherland Springs Historical Museum and the Sutherland Springs Fire Department. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, baking, kayaking, church functions and caring for animals. Vera is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Paul Hugo, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Ploch; daughters, Jenny Rhodes (Brian), Brandy Hernandez (Roland), Diane Ploch Smith (Philip), and Missy Balderas (Jesse); 10 grandchildren; and 9 very loved dogs. Visitation will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Burial will follow at Sutherland Springs Cemetery. Reverend Frank Pomeroy will be officiant of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Emily Frye, MD at WellMed, Behyar Zoghi, MD, PhD at Texas Transplant Institute, the doctors, nurses and staff of the Blood Cancer and Stem Cell Transplant Clinic, and the nurses of Vitas Hospice for their support in her final days.
