Virgil Vernon McCann, age 88, of Smiley, passed away November 28, 2016 in Gonzales. He was born June 15, 1928 in Arenzville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carl McCann and Audesta Boatman McCann; his son, Curtis V. McCann; a granddaughter, Brandi Barrientez; and nine brothers. Virgil married Virgie Brown on December 1, 1951 in Corpus Christi. He is survived by his wife, Virgie; four daughters: Brenda Bullard and husband Chester, Darlene McCann, Sherrie Robinson and husband John, Margaret McKinney and husband B.K.; his daughter-in-law MaDonna McCann; his grandchildren: Joshua McCann, Shane Byrd and wife Sara, Chelsi Labus and husband Cody, Jake Robinson, TaeLee Cisneros, Cheyenne Cisneros, Megan Cisneros, and Scott Barrientez; his great-grandchildren: Brayden Barrientez, John Michael Byrd, and Adolfo Ortega; a brother, John Clarence McCann and wife Jewel; four sisters: Pearl Hunt, Goldie Beal, Margaret Gernandt, and Myrtle Irene Blumberg; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as other loving family and many friends.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 30th from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Finch Chapel in Nixon with the Rev. Michael Cowey officiating. Burial will follow in the Nixon Cemetery.
