Calvin Ray  Pullin
Judge Calvin Ray Pullin went to be with his Lord on September 29, 2016. He was born in Gonzales County to Ethel Thurmond Pullin and John Wesley Pullin on June 24, 1929. He graduated from Nixon High School in 1947, and loved telling that he was in the top 10 of a class of only 8. He married Evelyn Lois (Brieden) Pullin, the love of his life, on December 24, 1951 in Seguin, Texas.

He left for Korea on January 8, 1952, as a Medical Tech with the 3rd Division. There he had Thanksgiving dinner with President Elect Eisenhower. He returned home as a decorated Sargeant awarded four Bronze Stars, one Silver Service Star, Medical Badge United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal. Calvin Ray joined the San Antonio Police Department in June 1954, retiring after 36 years. As a motorcycle officer, he had the honor of shaking the hand of nine presidents: Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy (2 hours before he was assassinated), Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Bush Sr. He became Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4, Nixon, Gonzales County, Texas, retiring after 12 years with many honors. All and all, he served his country and the community of his area for over 50 years. He was also a member and a 15 year Trustee and song leader with the Church of Christ in Nixon.

Calvin is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 65 years, Evelyn. Together they raised four children. He is survived by two sons: Ronald Keith Pullin and his wife, Kathy Pullin; John Andrew Pullin and his wife Marlene Pullin; his daughter, April Pullin Parks and her husband Joe Parks; a sister, Margaret Nell Wallace and her husband Johnny Wallace. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: David Tagtmeyer, Misty McCunnis, Calvin Keith Pullin, Matthew Ray Pullin, Lindsay Pullin Londoño, John Garett Parks, Kailey Ray Parks; five great-grandchildren: Fenix and Emilo Londoño, Samuel and Anabelle McCunnis, and Lucy Lem Pullin; numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Tagtmeyer; a brother, Mansel Pullin; a sister, Vivian Radicke; and a grandson, Adrian Cain.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel, 308 E. Third Street, Nixon. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Finch Chapel with burial following at Nockenut Cemetery, Stockdale, Texas. Mr. Ken Walters will officiate.
